Privacy policy
Last updated: June 29, 2026. This policy describes how UPC Retriever handles information when you use upcretriever.com and portal.upcretriever.com.
UPC Retriever enriches product data in inventory and point of sale on Clover and Linga. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our Terms of service.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and subscription status.
Billing information. When you subscribe, our payment partner (iPOSPays) processes your card. We receive a payment token and limited billing details (such as card brand and last four digits) needed to manage renewals. We do not store your full card number.
Point of sale connection data. To enrich your catalog, we store credentials and identifiers needed to connect to your stores, including Clover OAuth tokens and Linga store IDs and API keys. Sensitive connection secrets are encrypted at rest.
Catalog and enrichment data. We store information about your point of sale items while you use the service, including item IDs, names, barcodes, enrichment status, possible match options held in Review, backups taken before we change an item, and the product data we apply. We also cache product lookup results to reduce duplicate requests to our data providers.
Scanner and account activity. If you use the barcode scanner or manage connections in your account, we process the data needed to add items to your point of sale and record your preferences (such as which platform the scanner uses). If you choose camera scanning, video stays on your device; only the barcode or product name you enter is sent for lookup.
Contact and support. If you submit our contact form, we collect the information you provide (name, email, phone if given, subject, and message).
Technical data. Like most web services, our servers may log IP addresses, browser type, request timestamps, and similar technical data for security, rate limiting, and troubleshooting.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, operate, and improve UPC Retriever
- Connect to Clover and Linga on your behalf and read or update catalog items for enrichment
- Look up product information from third-party providers using barcodes or product names you send
- Save backups and restore original item data when you disconnect, cancel, or uninstall
- Process subscriptions and send service-related communications
- Respond to contact form messages and support requests
- Protect the service against fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your point of sale catalog to advertise to your customers.
3. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- Clover and Linga: We send API requests to the platforms you connect so we can read and update your catalog items.
- Product data providers: We send barcodes and product names (not your customer or card data) to providers such as Barcode Lookup to retrieve product information.
- Payment processing: iPOSPays handles card payments and returns tokens and transaction results to us.
- Infrastructure providers: We host the service on servers and databases operated by us or our hosting providers, under contractual safeguards appropriate to the data.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Data retention
We keep account and connection data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service.
When you disconnect a store, we attempt to revert enriched items promptly. When you cancel and reach the end of your billing period, or delete your account, we remove or anonymize connection data and attempt revert using backups we stored. Some records may be retained for a limited time in backups, logs, or billing records where required for security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
Contact form submissions are kept long enough to respond and resolve your request.
5. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption for sensitive point of sale credentials and payment tokens at rest, secure session handling, and access controls on our systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential and for who you allow to access your UPC Retriever account and connected point of sale platforms.
6. Your choices
- Account data: You may update account details by contacting us.
- Disconnect stores: You can disconnect Clover or Linga from your account at any time. This triggers revert of enriched items and removal of our connection data for that store.
- Cancel subscription: You can cancel from your account. Enrichment stops when your paid period ends, and revert runs at that time as described in our Terms.
- Contact us: You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold, subject to legal and operational requirements. Email us through the contact page.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under local law. We will honor valid requests where applicable.
7. Children
UPC Retriever is a business service not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. International users
UPC Retriever is operated from the United States. If you use the service from another country, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in your account where appropriate.
